Spring Is In The Air At The MIAC Open Invite

BECKER, Minn. (4/12/15)—One of the sure signs of spring is the return to competition by the Cobber golf teams. Concordia started the spring portion of their schedule with the two-day MIAC Open Invite at Pebble Creek Golf Course and finished sixth among exclusively MIAC competition.

Concordia had their top three golfers at the meet finish within eight shots of one another. Kristi Opatz led Concordia at the meet with a two-day total of 180. She fired a 92 on Saturday and then came back with an 88 on Sunday. Opatz was also one of three CC golfers to post a better score in day 2.

Erin Pennington was second on the team. She went 93-91 and finished with a total of 180. Katie Nelson posted the lowest round of any CC player when she carded an 89 in the opening round. Nelson then slid back with a 99 in the second round and finished at 188.

Tiffany Swanson had the biggest improvement from the first to second rounds for Concordia. She started with a 99 on Saturday and then shot six strokes better on Sunday with a 93.

Hayley Johnson was the fifth member of the Cobber quintet at the meet. She shot a 92 in the opening round but then came back with a 102 on Sunday.

Concordia will finish off their shortened spring schedule next weekend when they compete in the Bethel Royal Match at Deer Run GC on Apr. 18-19.
