Young Cobbers Dominate UM-Morris Invite
MORRIS, Minn. (9/22/11)—The youthful
Cobbers continued to improve on Wednesday at the UM-Morris Invite
as they shot a team score of 343 and won the tournament by 50
shots. Freshmen Holly Karkela and Kristi
Opatz tied for the low score with an 83. Opatz earned
medalist honors at the invite on the basis of a scorecard
playoff.
The all first-year Cobbers posted four of the top five individual
scores at the tournament. For Karkela it tied for her best round of
the season and the 83 for Opatz was the third time this season that
she has fired a round under 85.
Joining Karkela and Opatz in the top 5 were Molly
Zavadil and Katie Nelson. Zavadil shot an
87 and Nelson countered with a 90.
Fellow freshmen Amy Mireault and Dana
Meslow finished in the top 10 at the tournament. Mireault
had a 93 and Meslow was one shot behind with a 94.
Concordia will travel south to Marshall, Minn. to compete in the
Southwest Minnesota State Invite on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday,
Sept. 25 at the Marshall Golf Club.
