Alberta Clipper Outside Shooting Costs Cobbers

ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/27/24)---Concordia suffered through its worst 3-point shooting game of the season on their way to dropping a 71-55 decision at Hamline.

The Cobbers missed their first 15 long-range shots in the game and shot an Alberta Clipper-like 6.3% (1-for-16) from outside the arc as they had their 6-game win streak come to an end. The one made 3-pointer is the fewest of the year for CC and the least number of made shots from distance since the middle of last season when they went 1-for-12 at St. Mary's.

The loss is only the second in conference play for Concordia, who are now 12-2 in league play and 13-4 overall.

The Cobbers never led in the game as they scored the second field goal of the game to tie the score at 2-2, and then the Pipers went on an 8-0 run to set the tone for the game. CC would get to within seven points on a made layup from Molly Musland before Hamline finished the first quarter on an 8-4 run.

Concordia went 0-for-4 from outside the arc in both the first and second quarters as they fell behind by as many as 26 points before the halftime break.

The Cobbers trailed 42-22 heading into the third quarter and proceeded to go 0-for-4 from distance in the third frame as well. CC didn't connect on its first 3-point field goal until Musland drained a shot outside the arc with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter.

On the other end of the floor, the Pipers went 12-for-25 (48.0%) from 3-point range to secure the win from outside the arc.

Hamline (9-9, 7-7 MIAC) also had a decided edge in rebounding. The Pipers outrebounded Concordia 30-16 and didn't allow CC to come away with an offensive rebound.

Concordia's defensive pressure forced the Pipers into 19 turnovers in the game and they used that to gain an 18-4 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Cobbers also held a 32-20 margin in points in the paint.

Junior Makayla Anderson led the Cobbers with 18 points and four rebounds. She was 7-for-12 from the floor.

Alexa Snesrud was the only other CC player with more than six points in the contest. She was 2-for-4 from the field, 4-for-4 from the foul line, and finished with eight points.

Emily Beseman grabbed a team-high five rebounds.

UP NEXT: Concordia will return to the friendly confines of Memorial Auditorium when they host St. Mary's on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 3:30 p.m.
