Glass Work Gives Cobbers Win In MIAC Opener

ST. PAUL, Minn. (11/21/23)---Concordia started slow but found its rhythm in the second quarter and rolled past Macalester 68-49 in the conference opener for both teams.

The Cobbers outscored the Scots in all four quarters on their way to the 19-point victory. The win ends Concordia's 2-game winless streak and evens their overall record at 2-2.

Concordia trailed 11-8 midway through the opening quarter of play. Junior guard Carlee Sieben connected a 3-ball to tie the game, and then the Scots took their final lead of the game with a jumper in the paint before Makayla Anderson connected on a field goal, Greta Tollefson made a pair of free throws and Emily Beseman drained a shot from distance to give CC an 18-13 lead.

The Cobbers never let Macalester get to within two points in the second quarter, built a double-digit lead at the halftime break and closed out the game by holding the Scots to 11 points in the third and fourth quarters.

Concordia did its damage around the basket. The Cobbers shot 56.2% (18-for-32) from inside 3-point range while limiting Macalester to only 29.2% (12-for-41) from the same area of the court.

CC also enjoyed a 54-38 advantage in rebounds. The 54 total rebounds are a season-high for Concordia and the most since they grabbed 56 in the second game of the 2012 season.

The Cobbers were 5-for-26 (19.1%) from outside the arc and 17-for-21 (81.0%) from the free throw line. CC is shooting 79.8% from the follow – second best in the MIAC.

Concordia had four of the starting five finish with at least 10 points. The Cobbers were led by Sieben, who was 7-for-18 from the floor and had 19 points. She has scored at least 12 points in all four games this year and leads CC with a 17.3 ppg average.

Beseman went 3-for-5 from distance to put up 16 points. She also grabbed a season-high six boards.

Anderson hauled in a team-high seven rebounds and went 5-for-9 from the floor to finish with 14 points.

Jordyn Kahler was the final member of the Cobbers to post a double-digit point total. She was 4-for-9 from the field, 3-for-3 from the foul line and had a season-high 11 points.
