Second-Quarter Stumble Stymies Cobbers At Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (11/11/23)---Wisconsin might not be on the list of states Concordia would like to visit for the rest of the season.

The Cobbers dropped their second game in the land of cheese in less than 24 hours as they were outscored 52-22 in points in the paint and fell 65-52 to Wis.-Stevens Point in the final game of the Stevens Point Tip-Off Tournament. The game was the last non-conference contest of the year for CC.

Concordia never led in its game with the Pointers and are now 1-2 on the season. The Pointers are 2-0 on the season.

The turning point of the game came in the second quarter when the Cobbers shot 13.3% (2-for-15) from the field, 0-for-5 from outside the arc and committed six turnovers as the deficit went from six points after one quarter of play to 21 points at the halftime break.

Concordia outscored Stevens Point 35-27 in the second half but couldn't recover from the second-quarter setback and lost by 13 points.

The Cobbers shot 31.5% (17-for-54) from the floor and 21.4% (3-for-14) from 3-point range. The Pointers made 10 more field goals in the game and shot 44.3% (27-for-61) from the floor. UWSP only made one 3-pointer in the game and went 1-for-11 (9.1%) from distance.

CC also held a decided edge at the free throw line, where they made 15-of-22 attempts. Stevens Point was 10-for-12 from the line.

Junior Makayla Anderson led Concordia with 18 points. She was 8-for-18 from the floor and had eight rebounds.

Greta Tollefson also had a team-high eight boards.

Carlee Sieben scored 12 points and finished with 28 points in the two games. She was named to the All-Tournament Team following the completion of the weekend.       
 
UP NEXT: Concordia will face DI Univ. of North Dakota in an exhibition game on Wednesday, Nov. 15, before opening conference play at Macalester on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 5:15 p.m.
