Fast Start Fuels Double-Digit Win At Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/16/23)---Concordia scored 14 of the first 17 points in their conference road game at Macalester and cruised to a 72-54 win.

The Cobbers built the lead to 22 points in the second quarter, and then coasted in the second half as they won their fourth straight MIAC road game.

Concordia has now won seven of its last eight games and is 11-3 on the season. The 11 wins are the most by a Cobber team since the 2017-18 season. CC is also 8-3 at the halfway point of the league season which puts them in sole possession of third place in the MIAC standings – only one game out of the 2-way tie for first place.

Concordia's defense limited Macalester to 22.7% (5-for-22) shooting from the field in the first half of play. That pressure defense helped CC to a 33-14 at the break.

In the end, the Cobbers forced 21 turnovers, only committed four miscues on their offensive end, and held a 23-3 advantage in points off of turnovers.

Concordia also outscored the Scots 36-22 in points in the paint.

The Cobbers used 12 different players in the game, had eight players score points and had three starters finish with at least 13 points.

Emily Beseman, the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week, led all players with 17 points and added four rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Jordyn Kahler was 6-for-7 from the field and recorded 15 points. It's her second straight game with at least 14 points, and fifth double-digit scoring total of the season. Kahler also hauled down a 

Carlee Sieben had seven points in the first and finished with 13. She knocked down a game-high three shots from distance and was 5-for-11 from the floor.

Symone Beld and Greta Tollefson led the Cobber inside game. Both players finished with a team-high five rebounds. Beld also put up eight points, while Tollefson had five.
