Cobbers Drop Road Game At St. Benedict

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (12/04/21)---The last 4:25 of the third quarter proved to be the difference in the Cobbers' game at St. Benedict on Saturday. Concordia was outscored 12-4 down the stretch in the third period which turned a 2-point nail biter into a tough double-digit deficit.

The Cobbers would get as close as four points in the final quarter, but wound up losing 71-61 to the unbeaten Blazers.

The score was tied seven different times during the game, and there were 12 lead changes.

The scoresheet was nearly identical for both teams for the 40 minutes of play. The Cobbers made 25 shots and had a 45.5% field goal percentage, while St. Benedict made 27 of their shots and posted a 47.4% mark from the floor. CSB held a slim 31-29 edge on the boards, but Concordia outscored the Bennies 42-32 in points in the paint.

The biggest stat advantage for either team came from outside the arc. Concordia went 3-for-10 (30.0%) from 3-point range, and St. Benedict was 10-for-22 (45.5%) from distance.

Concordia had a pair of players finish with a double-digit point total. Senior guard Autumn Thompson went 8-for-13 from the floor and had a team-high 18 points. She also dished out four assists. Senior forward Mary Sem finished with 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Freshman Makayla Anderson came away with a came away with a game-high eight rebounds and also had six points.    

UP NEXT: Concordia has two more games before Christmas. The Cobbers will play at Bethel on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 5:45 p.m. and then travel to Hamline on Saturday, Dec. 11.
