Januschka Earns MIAC Weekly Award

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/16/15)—The opening weekend of the 2015-16 season couldn't have started out much better for junior Jenna Januschka. Januschka posted career-high points totals in both of Concordia's games and helped the Cobbers get off to a 1-1 start.

Januschka's weekend got even better on Monday as she was named the MIAC Player of the Week. Januschka wins the very first player of the week honor for the season and it is the first time in her career she has been named the MIAC Player of the Week.

Januschka becomes the first Cobber player to earn the award since her sister Erin Januschka was named the player of the week on Jan. 26 of last season.

Januschka finished the back-to-back opening weekend of the season by averaging 17.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 54.5% from the floor, 40.0% percent from 3-point range and 90.0% from the free throw line.

Januschka started her career-scoring weekend by putting up 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the team's season-opening loss to Wis.-Superior. The 13 points was a new career high and it was her first career double-double. She also grabbed three assists and was 4-for-8 from the field and 4-for-4 from the foul line in the game against the Yellowjackets.

Januschka was the main contributor in Concordia's 69-58 win over Minn.-Morris on Saturday. She upped her career-high point total to 22 points and also had eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Januschka was equally effective shooting the ball in the second game of the year. She went 8-for-14 (57.1%) from the field and 5-for-6 (83.35) from the free throw line.

Concordia will be hoping Januschka can continue her scoring trend when they travel to California to compete in a pair of games held at UC-Santa Cruz. The Cobbers will go up against Augustana (Ill.) on Friday, Nov. 20 and then face the Banana Slugs on Saturday, Nov. 21 in a battle of the top 2 best nicknames as promoted by ESPN.
