Queen Of The 3-Pointer Helps Clinch Playoff Spot

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (2/18/15)—Alley Fisher became Concordia's all-time 3-point Queen when she knocked down her 175th career shot from behind the arc with 16:51 remaining in the second half and the Cobbers went on to beat St. Olaf 66-53 to clinch their 13th consecutive MIAC playoff berth.

Fisher would add one more 3-pointer in the game to push her total to 176. She bettered the previous record of 174 career 3-pointers set by Annie Keeley from 2003-07.

While the individual milestone came at the beginning of the second half, it wasn't until the final buzzer that the Cobbers were able to celebrate their playoff-clinching win. Concordia used season-high shooting percentages from the floor and 3-point range to win its 14th overall game and 10th in league play. CC is now 14-10 overall and 10-7 in the MIAC. It is 32nd straight year that Concordia has won at least 10 conference games.

Fisher finished with a team-high 16 points after going 4-for-5 from 3-point range. She was one of two CC players to knock down four shots from outside the arc. Sophomore guard Greta Walsh was 4-for-6 from 3-point range and finished with 12 points. Emma Peterson made it a trio of guards to score in double figures for the Cobbers. She was 4-for-5 from the floor and also had 12 points.

Concordia broke the game open at the end of the first half. The Cobbers trailed 12-10 with 7:00 to play in the opening period but then freshman Annalise Savageau connected on 3-pointer that sparked a 19-7 run to finish off the half.

The Cobbers would then push their 10-point halftime margin at 29-19 to 20 points midway through the final half. CC held as much as a 23-point lead before the Oles closed out the game by scoring the final nine points.

Concordia shot 70.0% (14-for-20) from the floor and 75.0% (6-for-8) in the second half. The Cobbers finished the game by going 24-for-40 from the floor and 12-for-18 from 3-point land. The 12 made 3-pointers is a season high total in MIAC play for CC and the second highest total of the season. Concordia made 13 shots from outside the arc in the second game of the year against Mayville State.

The Cobbers had a 33-20 edge in rebounding. The 20 rebounds for St. Olaf are the fewest by a Concordia opponent all season long and least since Feb. 4, 2006 when Carleton also only collected 20 rebounds.

Concordia will finish off the regular season when they host Augsburg on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. The Cobbers can clinch the No.4 seed for the upcoming MIAC playoffs with a win over the Auggies.
