Cobbers Keep Pressure Up 24-7 In Win Over PLU

TACOMA, Wash. (11/21/14)---A 24-7 run over 14:30 in the first half helped Concordia outlast Pacific Lutheran 69-51 and post a successful start to their early-season Washington trip.

The Cobbers trailed 6-5 with 16:44 left to play in the first half but then pressured the Lutes into turnovers and contested shots and built a 29-13 lead with 2:14 left in the opening period. Concordia never trailed from that point forward en route to posting their second straight victory and moving to 2-1 on the season. The Lutes are now 1-2 for the year.

Pacific Lutheran did make a run at the Cobbers in the second half and cut the lead to a single point at 37-36 with 13:01 left in the final period. Concordia then eased the lead back to double digits in the next 6:20 and rolled to the 18-point win.

Concordia's defense forced 25 turnovers in the game and used that advantage to hold a 26-13 edge in points off of turnovers. CC also held a decided edge in points in the paint where they outscored the Lutes 32-18 and had 11-rebound edge for the game.

The Cobbers went cold from the outside in Tacoma. One game after setting a new school record for 3-point field goals, Concordia shot only 21.1% from outside the arc as they connected on only four of 19 attempts. CC shot a tepid 34.9% (22-for-63) from the floor for the game.

Concordia had four players score in double figures. Senior forward Erin Januschka led all players with 16 points. She was 7-for-14 from the floor and also added four rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Olivia Johnson put up her second straight double-double of the season. The junior had 10 points to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds. Against Mayville St. on Tuesday she had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Alley Fisher posted her second straight statistical career high and in the process earned the "It Takes A Thief" award for the game. On Tuesday Fisher had a career-high 12 assists and against Pacific Lutheran she recorded a career-high eight steals. Fisher also came away with 15 points and four rebounds. The senior guard has now scored in double figures in two straight games and leads the team with a 15.7 points per game average.

Like Fisher, Emma Peterson also scored in double figures for the second consecutive game and also had a career high in a stat category. She was 4-for-8 from the floor, 2-for-2 from the free throw line and finished with 11 points. Peterson also had a career-high seven rebounds.

Concordia will finish off the Doug McArthur Classic when they face host Puget Sound on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. The Loggers beat St. Benedict 75-54 in their first game of the tournament on Friday.
