Fab 5 Earn MIAC Postseason Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/06/14)—Kelsey Walloch, Alexandra Lippert, Alley Fisher, Olivia Johnson and Greta Walsh all earned MIAC postseason honors as they quintet helped Concordia earn its second straight NCAA playoff berth.

Walloch earned the biggest award of the Cobber 5 by being named the MIAC Sixth Player-of-the-Year. Lippert and Fisher were named to the MIAC All-Conference Team and Lippert also earned All-Defensive Team honors. Johnson was placed on the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team while Walsh was placed on All-First Year Team.

The five players combined to lead Concordia to a 21-5 overall record and a 19-3 mark in conf erence play. The Cobbers won 15 of their final 16 regular-season games to finish in a tie for second place in the MIAC standings. CC's late-season stretch also helped them earn a spot in the D3hoops.com national rankings for the first time in school history.

Walloch routinely came off the bench to carry the team during tough stretches of games. She scored in double figures in eight games during the conference season and collected at least three rebounds in all but six league games. She recorded her only double-double of the season against St. Benedict on Jan. 15 when she scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Lippert was third on the team in scoring in conference games with a 9.9 points per game average. She led the team in rebounding by collecting 6.5 rebounds per game. Lippert was third in the MIAC in blocks (47) and field goal percentage (50.0%) and fourth in offensive rebounds (58).  Lippert surpassed a huge milestone during the season. She became the first player in Concordia history to score 1,000 points, collect 500 rebounds and block 200 shots in a career. Lippert reached the 1000-500-200 plateau against Macalester on Jan. 22.

Fisher led the team in scoring in league games. She averaged 12.3 points in the 22 league games. Fisher led the MIAC in 3-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage. She shot 46.4% from outside the arc and connected on 88.7% of her free throw attempts. Fisher scored in double figures in 14 MIAC games and the Cobbers were 14-0 in those games. She had a career-high 26 points against Augsburg on Dec. 11.

Johnson had a breakout sophomore season. She was a presence from both the inside and outside for the Concordia lineup.  She averaged 7.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in the league. She scored in double figures in six games and had a season-high 15 points against Macalester on Jan. 4. She recorded at least five rebounds in all but four conference games and had a career-high 13 boards against Bethel. Johnson was in the top 15 in the MIAC in all three rebounding categories.

Walsh's grit and determination came through as one of the team's point guards. Her ability to handle the pressure in the full court and half court helped Concordia lead the MIAC in scoring and points per game. Walsh was second on the team in scoring in MIAC games. She averaged 10.1 points per game and scored in double figures in three of the final four games. Walsh had a season-high 21 points against Carleton on Feb. 10. She was fourth in the MIAC in 3-point field goal percentage, connecting on 41.0% of her shots from outside the arc.
