A Euphoric NCAA Tournament Selection
MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/03/14)—Concordia players and the coaching staff jumped for joy, hugged and was ecstatic after finding out they learned one of the 21 at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament. The Cobbers will face UW-Whitewater on Friday, Mar. 7 at 5:30 p.m. as part of a four-team grouping at St Thomas.
It will be the first time that Concordia has faced the Warhawks in the NCAA Tournament.
The Tommies will host Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season, and tournament, champion Loras at 8 p.m. in the other game in the grouping. The winners of the two games will then meet on Saturday, Mar. 8 at 7 p.m.

Concordia earned its second straight trip to the national playoffs, and four of the past six seasons, by finishing second in the MIAC regular-season standings and compiling a 21-5 overall record. It will be the 19th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Cobbers. Concordia won the national championship in 1988.
UW-Whitewater also earned one of the at-large bids into the tournament after being upset in the semifinals of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The Warhawks won the regular-season championship with a perfect 16-0 record. Whitewater heads into the national tournament with a 22-4 overall record. They will be making their seventh consecutive appearance in the NCAA playoffs and 14th overall appearance. Last year the Warhawks lost in the NCAA championship game to DePauw.
The Cobbers lost to UW-Stevens Point in the first round of the NCAA playoffs last season and are 20-18 in their previous 18 trips to the "Big Dance". Concordia has not made it out of the first round since 1995 when they lost in the second round at St. Ben's. Since then they have appeared in five national playoff games and are 0-5. Concordia is 10-8 in their 18 previous first-round games.
The Warhawks are 4-2 in their previous six first round NCAA tournament games dating back to the 2008 season. Whitewater is 29-18 overall in their prevuious national tournament experience which included AIAW contests.
