Cancer Awareness Game Dedicated To Leanne Miller

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/14/12)—Concordia will host their annual Cancer Awareness/Think Pink game on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 5:45 p.m. against Gustavus. This year's game will have special meaning as it is dedicated to former Cobber player Leanne Miller (White) who was diagnosed with breast cancer in October.

The Cobber women's basketball team will be selling wrist bands and t-shirts at the game and all the proceeds will go directly to Leanne and her family support group "Team Chin".

Miller, whose maiden name was White, played for the Cobbers from 2004 through 2007. She played in 99 games and started her senior season in 2006-07. In her senior season she averaged 21.7 minutes per game and averaged 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 points per game. For her career she averaged 3.7 rebounds per game, had 70 steals and shot 38.2% from the field.

Miller majored in Elementary Education and went on to earn her Masters of Education degree from Valley City State. She currently teaches fifth grade in Alexandria and also coaches eighth-grade basketball in the school district.

The Team Chin support group comes from Miller's nickname which comes from the restaurant Leeann Chin . While she was attending a basketball camp in middle school, a fellow camper had a bag from the restaurant. The camper made the connection between the name of the restaurant and Leanne's name and the nickname Chin stuck!

Fans are encouraged to wear pink and a table for donations, and wrist band and t-shirt sales, will be set up around the outside of the basketball court.
