Freshman Leads Cobbers At MIAC Meet

ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/29/16)--- Eric Wicklund continued his outstanding freshman season by leading Concordia at the MIAC Championship Meet. Wicklund ran a 27:39.5 and was the only Cobber to place in the Top 50 of the meet.

Wicklund's 49th-place finish, out of 200 runners, on the Como Park GC track helped the Cobbers finish 11th at the conference meet.

Wicklund's finishing time is the fastest by a Cobber since the 2014 season when Ryan Sederquist clocked a 26:59.9 and finished in 44th place.

Senior Matthew Lillehaugen was just of Wicklund's pace. He finished in a time of 27:55.7 and came home in 64th place. His time is the second fastest of his career.

Brandon Quibell, who was fighting off sickness on Satursay, fell off his projected finish as he placed 132nd with a mark of 29:22.2. Last year he ran a 29:12.5 at the conference meet.

Junior Nick Solheim and senior Will Corbett were the team's No.4 and No.5 runners at the meet and factored in the team scoring. Running at his first MIAC meet, Solheim covered the 8K course in a time of 29:46.7 and placed 150th. Corbett was right behind Solheim. He placed 159th in a time of 29:56.5. Corbett's time is over 1-minute faster than his mark from last year at the conference meet.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will have a two-week period to train and get ready for the NCAA Central Region Meet. The Cobbers will compete at the regional on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Carleton College.
