The Heat Was On

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (9/27/14)—The heat was on at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. The unseasonably warm temperature sapped the strength of several Cobber runners and pushed Concordia into 11th place in the final team standings.

Carl Wahlin, Concordia's No.1 runner throughout the first three meets of the year, was unable to finish the race because of the heat. Senior Ryan Sederquist showed his grit and determination by running through the warm temperatures and posting a time of 27:21.8 over the 8k course. He was the top Cobber runner at the meet and finished in 16th place to post his third top 20 finish of the season.

Sederquist was the only CC runner to finish in the top 50. The Cobbers had a trio of runners finish within 11 places of one another starting with freshman Erik Larson's claim to the No.64 spot. Larson came home in 30:07.1. Fellow first-year runner Brendan Johnson was 15 seconds behind at 30:22.2 and placed 70th at the Griak while junior Tim Peterson clocked a 30:35.9 and finished in 75th place.

Senior Aaron Larkin completed the top five scorers for Concordia. He crossed the line in 31:08.6 and was in 83rd place.

Concordia will have almost two weeks off before traveling west to compete in Jamestown Invitational on Friday, Oct. 10 at the Hillcrest GC. CC will then host the Cobber 5k Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 10 as part of the annual Homecoming weekend.
