Cobbers Compete At Simpson And Drake Relays

DES MOINES, IOWA (4/27/28)---Concordia competed in a pair of meets in Iowa. The Cobbers had a group of athletes at the Simpson Open and had several at the Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday.

First-year runner Brady Goss ran in the 3000-meter steeplechase at Simpson and finished in seventh place in a race that featured 38 runners. Goss, who continues to improve in the steeplechase with each passing week, clocked a 9:24.48. That time is a season best and the fourth fastest in the MIAC this season. It is also the fifth fastest in program history.

Senior teammate Cole Nowacki was close behind Goss at the finish line. He also posted a season-best and career-best time by crossing the finish line in a time of 9:37.35. That mark jumps Nowacki into the Top 10 in the conference and eighth all-time for Concordia.

First-year thrower Eli Hayes was one of the top Cobber competitors at the Drake Relays. He competed in the javelin and finished eighth with a final mark of 176-02. That distance is just shy of his MIAC-leading mark of 185-2 which came at the Al Cassell Classic on Apr. 12.

Concordia had a group race in the 4x200-meter relay and placed 13th. Jordan Petron, Dawson Schaffer, Wade Rhonemus and Trevor Tiongson came home with a time of 1:29.58.

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will start MIAC Championship Meet next week when the multi-event crew competes in the MIAC Decathlon on May 2-3 at Carleton. The other members of Concordia will head across the Red River to take part in the NDSU Bison Tune-Up on Friday, May 3.
