Goss Goes Back-To-Back In First Season Road Trip

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (1/27/24)---Concordia embarked on its first road trip of the season on Saturday and had a first-year runner post his second straight event win of the year.

Brady Goss was the lone event winner for Concordia at the UND Open in Grand Forks on Saturday as he came away with the title in the 3000 meters in a meet that was predominantly NCAA Division I, II and NAIA athletes. It's his second event win of the year as he captured the crown in the mile at last weekend's Cobber Open.

Goss crossed the line in a time of 8:43.85 in the 3000 meters to win the event by a full 8 seconds over a field of 18 competitors. His finishing time is a career best and is the No.10 mark on the Cobber all-time list. It is also in the Top 15 of the MIAC this season.

Goss wasn't the only Concordia athlete with a career-best mark at UND. Junior Ricky Ramirez posted a distance of 47-10.50 in the weight throw that topped his previous best mark in the event. His distance is No.9 in the MIAC this year and 12th best on the school's all-time list.

Ramirez also made the most of the rare indoor discus competition. He came through with a distance of 124-09, the fifth farthest in school history.

Like Ramirez, Dawson Schaffer also had a pair of top career marks. He tied his all-time fastest time in the 60-meter dash by clocking a 7.14. That's the same time he ran at the Cobber Open last weekend and is No.10 in the MIAC this year. Schaffer lowered his PR time in the 200 meters by running a 22.84, which after you factor in the size of the track converts into a real time of 23.25 – the sixth fastest time in the conference this year.

Junior Trevor Tiongson had the other Top 10 Cobber all-time mark at the meet. He raced to a 50.09 which converts into a 50.89 and is No.7 in the program's history. His converted time is also No.4 in the conference this season.

Cooper Folkestad, Wade Rhonemus and Logan Clark posted the highest finishes at the meet outside of Goss. Folkestad was third in the shot put with a distance of 51-10.00. He still owns the top mark in the MIAC this year at 53-06.25.

Rhonemus cleared the bar at 12-05.50 which placed him sixth in the event.

Clark qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.69 in the prelims and then clocked an 8.71 in the finals to cross the line in sixth place.

The final top mark in Grand Forks belonged to junior Anthony Marsh, who posted a season-best height of 6-02.75 in the high jump which is the second-best jump in the MIAC this season.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have its closest road trip next weekend when they cross the Red River to compete at the NDSU Open and Multi-Event on Feb. 2-3.
