GRAND FORKS, Minn. (02/20/22)---Senior cross country All-American Munir Isahak had the last mic drop for the Cobbers before the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet next weekend.

In an indoor season filled with school records, "Money" Isahak decided to let it all go one last time in search of the program mark in the mile at the UND Tune-Up in Grand Forks. When all was said and done, Isahak won the race and claimed the school record with a converted time of 4:14.52. That mark breaks the old record of 4:18.10 set by Tom Sederquist in 2011.

Isahak's record-setting mile helped the Cobbers win the UND Tune-Up which featured partial teams from UND, NDSU and MSU Moorhead.

Isahak's time in the mile is the second fastest in the MIAC this year, and is just another in a long list of Cobbers that are in the Top 2 in the conference. If you look at any event from the 200 meters all the way through the 5K, you will see at least one Concordia athlete in the Top 2 – and in some events, both of the Top 2 times are held by Cobbers.

Isahak is now in the Top 2 in the MIAC in the mile, 3000 meters and 5K. The toughest decision for Isahak is what events to run at the conference meet next weekend.

Senior All-American Jesse Middendorf was the other Cobber athlete to claim an event win in Grand Forks. He won the 800 meters in a non-converted time of 1:53.34 which won the race by over 1-second against scholarship competition. Middendorf owns the fastest time in the MIAC in the 800 this year. He clocked a 1:53.78 at the Bison Open on Feb. 4 which is also the 12th fastest in DIII this year which should get him a spot at the NCAA Indoor Championship Meet.

The top MIAC performance on Saturday came from sophomore Cooper Folkestad in the shot put. He is rounding into form at the perfect time as he uncorked a distance of 53-08.50 which is the best in in the MIAC by over 2 feet. Folkestad also owns the seventh best mark in the weight throw which he produced at the Dakota Alumni Classic.

Senior Jake Kerzman will give the Cobbers a stellar 1-2 combination in the throw events at the conference meet. Kerzman put up a season-best distance in the weight throw at UND. He came through with a mark of 55-09.00 on his sixth, and final, attempt of the meet. That distance is third best in the MIAC this year.

The other top track finish was posted by freshman Trevor Tiongson who crossed the line in the time of 23.29 in the 200 meters and placed second. Fellow freshman Nolan Morical was right behind Tiongson at 23.35.

UP NEXT: Concordia will now hope that all their top marks during the regular season will carry over to the conference meet. The Cobbers will put their Top 3 team hopes on the line when they compete at the MIAC Meet hosted by Carleton on Feb. 24-26. No spectators will be allowed in the event, but there will be live video and results for the fans to follow.
