Vickstrom Named MIAC Track Athlete Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/07/13)—Concordia sophomore sprinter Ben Vickstrom was named MIAC track Athlete of the Week for his lightning-fast performance at the Spite The Flood Meet on Saturday. He becomes the first Cobber athlete to earn the award since the 2008 season.

Vickstrom earns the conference weekly award for the first time in his career. He is the second Cobber to earn Athlete of the Week honors this year. Teammate Erik Olson was named the MIAC Field Athlete of the Week on two occasions during the indoor season. Xavier Carroll was the last Concordia athlete to win the MIAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honor. Carroll claimed the prize on Apr. 14, 2008.

Vickstrom sped to a 10.96 in the 100-meter dash on Saturday and won the event by almost .50 seconds. His time is the fourth fastest in the history of the program and is currently the second fasted in the MIAC this season.

Vickstrom also helped the Concordia 4x100-meter relay team win the event with a finishing time of 43.45.

Besides his top 3 time in the conference in the 100-meter dash his season, Vickstrom is also ranked 10th in the MIAC in the 200-meter dash. Vickstrom has a season-best time of 22.60 in the 200 meters this year.

Vickstrom, and the rest of the Cobbers, will compete at the MIAC Championship Meet starting on Friday, May 10 at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.
