Johnson Named MIAC Field Athlete Of The Week
Moorhead, Minn. (5/7/12)—Concordia
sophomore Connor Johnson (Colfax, N.D./Richalnd
HS) was named the MIAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week after he
posted the top mark in the MIAC in the javelin at the Ron Masanz
Invite over the weekend.
It is the first time that Johnson has won the conference weekly
award and he becomes the first Cobber athlete to take home Athlete
of the Week honors since 2008.
Johnson's recorded a distance of 175-10.00 in the javelin which
was better than any other NCAA athlete at the meet. His finishing
distance is currently the top mark in the MIAC by almost two feet.
His personal best throw was also the 12th farthest in Cobber school
history. What makes the accomplishment even more amazing is the
fact that this is the first season that Johnson has started to
throw the javelin.
In addition to his top MIAC distance in the javelin, Johnson also
currently ranks in the top 15 in two jump events. He is ninth in
the triple jump with a mark of 42-10.75 and 14th in the long jump
with a distance of 20-10.75.
Johnson will be hoping his all-around ability in the three events
can help the Cobbers climb the ladder at the MIAC Championship
Meet. Concordia will host the conference meet on May 10-11 at the
Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex and the Irv Christenson
Track.
