Toivonen Caps Freshman Season With All-MIAC Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/05/14)— Isaac Toivonen capped his outstanding freshman season at Concordia by being named to the MIAC All-Conference Singles Team. He was also the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Toivonen becomes the first Cobber freshman to earn All-MIAC honors since 2008 when Matt Edin also earned MIAC All-Conference singles honors.

Toivonen went 6-4 playing at No.1 singles in his first season of conference play. His six wins tied for the most among any players at No.1 singles in the MIAC. Toivonen finished the year by winning three of his final four matches and four of his final six.

Toivonen was 6-7 in all matches in the spring. He started the season in the fall by advancing to the semifinals of the prestigious ITA Regional Tournament held at Gustavus. During his first college competition he went 4-1 before finally falling in the semifinals in three sets to eventual champion Motasem Al Houni of Gustavus.

Toivonen won two of his first three matches in the spring but then dropped four straight before finishing his first year on a tear by going 4-2.
