Goal In The 71st Minute Sends Cobbers To 1-Goal Loss

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (10/17/23)---A goal in the 71st minute of play proved to be the difference in Concordia's 2-1 loss at Bethel.

The Cobbers tied the game in the opening minute of the second half but then allowed the game-winning goal midway through the final period and dropped their third 1-goal decision of the season.

The loss brings Concordia's record to 4-8-2 in all games and 1-6-2 in the MIAC. The Royals are now 4-6-4 overall and 2-4-3 in league play.

Bethel scored the opening goal of the game in the 8th minute of play. The goal came off of a cross from the left wing. The BU player was able to run onto the ball and hit a 1-timed shot that slid on the ground and inside the back post.

The Cobber had the better of the offensive play in the first half as they held a 10-8 edge in total shots and a 5-2 lead in shots on goal.

Junior Leo Dunor brought the Cobbers level when he scored 34 seconds into the second half. Dunor took possession of the ball 30 yards out from goal, beat a pair of Bethel defenders and cut the ball into the middle of the field at the top of the penalty area. He then fired a shot that beat the goalie on the right side of the goal.

Dunor's equalizer at 45:34 was his team-leading sixth goal of the season. It was also his first conference strike of the season. Dunor leads the team with six goals and three assists for 15 points.

Concordia had a pair of shots on frame in the final 18 minutes of play, but the attempts by Mason Weninger and Dunor were both stopped by the Royal keeper.

Bethel held a 21-15 lead in total shots for the game, but the Cobbers had four more shots on goal (9-5).
