Trio Of Second-Half Goals Rains On Cobbers' Parade

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/23/22)---Concordia conceded a trio of goals in the second half and dropped a 4-1 decision to Colorado College on a rainy Friday afternoon in Moorhead.

The Cobbers and Tigers played their way through an even first half, before Colorado College broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the final five minutes of the opening period.

Both teams controlled play throughout the opening 45 minutes with the Cobbers having the best chance on goal before the Tigers' first strike at the 40:46 mark.

Telvin Vah had the best chance for CC in the first half when he freed himself at the top of the penalty area and then fired a low shot that skipped off the wet grass and was stopped by the Tiger's goalie who had to go top his knees to make the save.

Colorado College (4-2-1) opened the game during a 102-second period in the second half. They scored off of a throw-in at 60:16, and then added their third at 61:58.

Concordia (2-6-0) would continue to fight in the game and were rewarded in the 75th minute of play when sophomore Mason Weninger headed home a cross from Kayden Aberle. Vah started the Cobbers' scoring play when he drew a pair of Tiger defenders at the top of the penalty area and slid the ball to Aberle on the right wing.

The goal at 74:33 was Weninger's first of the season and second of his career.

Colorado College held a 17-10 margin in total shots and a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Vah, Tyson Aberle and Gannon Brooks all had a pair of shots to lead CC.

Junior goalie Erick Torres made six saves in goal for the Cobbers.
