Learning Curve Continues

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/27/16)—A goal in each half proved to be the difference in the Cobbers' game against regionally-ranked St. Thomas.

Concordia allowed a goal with only 22-seconds remaining in the first half and then a second in the 73rd minute and dropped its second straight 2-0 decision in conference play.

The Cobbers have now dropped two straight games after reaching the .500 mark. CC is 3-5-1 in all games and 0-4-0 in league play. St. Thomas, who is ranked fourth in the North Region in the latest NSCAA rankings, remains unbeaten as they improve to 8-0-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the MIAC.

The Tommies had the better of the play in the first half. Concordia was able to defend in the final 30 yards and keep UST from gaining any quality uncontested chances.

The game turned late in the first half when a Cobber turnover in the middle of the field led to a St. Thomas corner kick with under 1-mute to play. The Tommies rushed forward and played the kick as time was winding down. The driven ball was met with a header and put into the far left side of the goal.

The second half was more of a back-and-forth attack between the two penalty areas. Concordia had more possession in the midfield but was never able to get behind the Tommie defense to set up a scoring chance.

The second goal of the game also came off of a turnover in the midfield. Concordia had a miscue coming out of its own half and St. Thomas was able to gain control of the ball and make a through pass behind the CC defense. The Tommie attacker ran onto the ball on the right side of the penalty area and slammed home a shot that went just underneath the crossbar.

St. Thomas held a 13-1 advantage in total shots and a 6-0 edge in shots on goal. Concordia goalie Ben Glogoza made four stops in the game.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will head south for a conference match-up in Winona against St. Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. The Cobbers will then have a non-conference game at Northwestern on Monday, Oct. 3.
