Cobbers Fall At #8 UW-Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (01/12/24)---For the first 40 minutes in their game at No.8-ranked Wis.-Stevens Point it looked like Concordia would pull off another upset against a Top 10 Division III team. The Pointers were able to change the game's momentum in the first minute of the third period, scored two goals in the opening 3:08 of the final frame and went on to post a 5-1 win.

The Cobbers opened the scoring in the first period when Hunter Olson scored an even-strength goal at the 8:16 mark. Hanson O'Leary picked up the assist on Olson's third goal of the season.

Concordia (7-6-1) held the Pointers off the board for the remainder of the first period and all of the second frame thanks to the play of the CC defense and goalie Matt Fitzgerald.

The Cobbers were outshot 19-12 in the first 40 minutes of play and held UWSP off the board on their two power play chances.

The game changed at the start of the third period. The Pointers finally got on the board when they scored on the power play at the 57 second mark.

Stevens Point (12-3) added the game winner at the 3:08, and then posted two more goals in a span of 4:38 midway through the period. The final tally came in the final 3 minutes of play. Which brought the final score line to 5-1.

CC was outshot 39-20 in the game. Jack Westlund led the Cobbers with four shots, while Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe had three for the game.

Fitzgerald finished the contest with 34 saves.
