Classic Cliché Catches Up To Cobbers In St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (11/11/23)---The classic cliché goes that all good things must come to an end, and that was the case with the Cobbers' win streak to start the season. Concordia gave up five consecutive goals in the first 48 minutes of their series finale at St. John's and lost 5-2.

The defeat ends Concordia's 5-game unbeaten streak to start the year. CC is now 4-1-1 in all games and 1-1-0 in conference play. The Johnnies up their record to 2-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the MIAC.

It took the Cobbers 40 minutes to get into the game. CC was outshot 20-14 in the first two periods of play and conceded a pair of goals in each of the first and second periods.

St. John's made the score 5-0 with a goal at 8:32 of the third frame before Concordia struck for two goals in the final 3:03 of the game.

Adam Brown scored his first collegiate goal at 16:57, with assists going to Bauer Barry and Liam Haslam.

Hunter Bjorge added the second goal for CC when he netted his second goal of the year at 18:33. Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe and Kevin Ness had the helpers on the game's final goal.

For Henkemeyer-Howe, it was his team-leading sixth point of the season, and Ness has posted a point in back-to-back games.

One of the keys in the game came on the power play. The Johnnies scored two goals on the man advantage and went 2-for-5 for the game. The Cobbers were held scoreless in their six PP attempts.

Concordia had scored at least one power play goal in three straight games before their series with SJU but went 0-for-9 in the two games with the Johnnies.

Concordia rallied to outshoot St. John's 15-8 in the third period and held a 29-28 advantage for the game.

Matt Fitzgerald made 23 saves and was saddled for his first loss of the year. He is now 3-1-1.
