Reichle Named MIAC Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/01/14)—Concordia freshman goalie Alex Reichle continues to earn accolades after his stellar performance at the PrimeLink Shooutout Tournament in Middlebury, Vt. Two days after helping the Cobbers become the first invited team to win the prestigious tournament Reichle was named the MIAC Men's Hockey Player of the Week.

Reichle stopped 62 of the 67 (.925 save percentage) shots he faced in the two games over the weekend. He made 36 saves in Concordia's win over Middlebury on Friday and then stopped 26 shots in the team's 2-2 overtime tie with No.2-ranked Norwich. He cap ped the tournament championship in the shootout against the Cadets by stopping four of the five shootout attempts.

Reichle becomes the first Concordia player to earn the conference weekly award since Kelly Andrew won the award on Feb. 3 of last season. He is the fourth Cobber player to win MIAC Player of the Week honors in the past three seasons.

Reichle guided Concordia to the PrimeLink Tournament title and in the process helped the Cobbers become the first team other than hosts Middlebury, Norwich and Plattsburgh St. to win the championship in the 17-year history of the tournament. The three host schools have won a combined 11 national championships, have been to the Final Four a combined 33 times and have participated in 49 different NCAA tournaments.

Concordia is now unbeaten in its last five games and Reichle has been the goalie of record in the last four contests. He is currently 4-1-1 with a 1.81 goals against average and a .934 save percentage in his freshman season for the Cobbers. He ranks third in the MIAC in both GAA and save percentage.

With the undefeated weekend Concordia also moved into the national ranking scene for the first time all season. The Cobbers are in the "others receiving votes" category in both the USCHO.com poll and D3hockey.com poll. CC received seven votes in the USCHO.com poll which would place them in the No.19 spot in the rankings while they earned 16 votes in the D3hockey.com rankings which places them in the No.17 spot.

Concordia will put its unbeaten streak on the line when they face St. Thomas in a two-game series on Dec. 5-6 in St. Paul.
