The Curse Of Friday The 13th

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/13/11)—Chalk it up to the curse Friday the 13th. The Cobbers stumbled through their game with Augsburg and were jinxed in a 5-1 loss in Moorhead. The Cobbers outshot the Auggies 32-21 but went 0-for-4 on the power play and lost for the second time in conference play.

Besides their struggles on the power play, the first five minutes of each period spelled doom for the Cobbers. Concordia allowed a goal in the first 4:30 of each period as Augsburg set the tone for the game at the start of each frame. CC gave up a score 4:03 into the first period, then just :18 into the middle period and finally at the 2:00 mark of the third period which put the game out of reach.

Concordia's lone score came midway through the third period when Pat Deitz scored his first goal of the season. Deitz goal at 11:08 was assisted by Braden Rahman and Brian Kang.

Concorsia split the goaltending duties between starter Kelly Andrew and Chris Neamonitis. Andrew played the first 40:00 and made nine saves. Neamonitis played the final period and stopped seven shots. Justin Lochner stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced to pick up his fifth win of the year.

The two teams will finish off their series on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
