Crown Them! Cobbers Claim Jamestown Invite Title

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (9/12/23)----Concordia used a pair of sub-300 rounds to capture the team title at the 54-hole Jamestown Fall Invite. The Cobbers finished with a final team total of 892, which was three shots clear of the host Jimmies.

The win is the first for the Cobbers at a multi-team invitational since the Bemidji State Invite in 2021.

Concordia opened the first round on Monday with a team total of 300. They finished off Day 1 with a 294 and claimed the crown with a 298 on Tuesday. CC has recorded team totals under 300 in three of their past four rounds.

Concordia had the Top 2 individual finishers at the Jamestown tournament. CC also had four players in the Top 5 and had five of their team members finish in the Top 10.

Freshman Jack Hanson came away with individual medalist honors. His 3-round total of 220 was one shot ahead of teammate Jayce Johnson – who played the meet as an individual for CC.

Hanson went out in 76 in the first round on Monday. He shot a 1-under 71 in the second round to get within striking distance for the final 18 holes. Hanson won the tournament with a 73 on Tuesday, which included a 35 on the front side – his second-lowest 9-hole total for the two days.

Johnson posted three of his top four scores for the year at Jamestown. His total of 221 consisted of 2-under 70 in the second round and two other rounds under 77. His second round on Monday was the lowest round of his collegiate career.

Gabe Benson and Sam Henke rounded out the Top 5 Cobber crew. The pair tied for fifth place with a score of 226. The players came to the end of the tourney from two different paths. Benson opened with a 75, slid to a 78 and came home with a 1-over 73 on Tuesday.

Benson continues to lead the Cobbers in scoring this season. He has an average of 72.9 over his eight rounds, hasn't shot higher than 78 and has a pair of Top 5 individual finishes.

Henke had the biggest rebound of any CC player from round to round. He started the tournament with a 46 on the opening nine holes that included a trio of double bogeys. Henke then played the final 45 holes in even par. He came home in the first round in 36, then recorded identical 72s in the last two rounds.
