Olson Earns All-Conference Honors & CC Places 5th At MIAC

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (10/03/22)---Landon Olson capped off his successful freshman season by earning All-MIAC honors at the conference meet.

Olson finished with a 3-round total of 223 (73-79-71) and finished in a tie for eighth place. His Top 10 finish earns the All-Conference award. He becomes only the fourth Cobber first-year player to earn All-MIAC honors, and first since teammate Sam Henke pulled off the feat in the spring of 2021.

Olson's All-Conference finish helped Concordia place fifth in the final team standings. It marks the fourth consecutive Top 5 finish for the Cobbers.

Concordia opened the tournament on Saturday by firing a team score of 295. That total was the second lowest for a CC team at a MIAC Meet since 2015. It was also the second lowest team score for the season. The Cobbers fell back to a 316 on Sunday, and then rallied to post a 303 on Monday.

As a team, Concordia was fifth in Par 3 scoring, Par 4 scoring, total number of pars and total number of birdies.

Olson started the final round in a tie for 17th place. He opened his Day 3 round with a pair of pars which were followed by a bogey on the third hole. Olson then found his game, and posted three straight birdies. He went out in 34, and then birdied the 10th hole to get to -3 for the day. He would post six pars and a pair of bogeys in the final eight holes to come home in 37 and record the 1-under total of 71.

Olson was seventh in the tournament in Par 5 scoring with a 4.83 average. He was also in the Top 10 in Par 3 scoring (3.25) and birdies (8).

Fellow freshman Gabe Benson was the team's No.2 finisher. He opened with an even-par 72, and then recorded back-to-back 80's. His final total of 232 earned him a Top 25 finish in his first conference meet.

Benson had 31 pars and five birdies for the meet. He was also in the Top 16 in Par 3 scoring. He averaged 3.33 shots on the 12 Par 3's at the tournament.

Mason Plante was the most consistent golfer for the Cobbers over the three rounds. He opened with a 78, posted a 79 on Sunday and then finished with a 77. His 3-round total of 234 was good for a tie for 28th place. Plante was second on the team in birdies for the tournament. He recorded seven birdies over the three rounds.

Jayce Johnson was the third Cobber first-year player at the MIAC Meet, and he was one shot behind Plante at 235. Johnson was the team's No.1 golfer after Day 2, but then posted an 84 on Monday. Johnson fired a 1-over 73 on Day 1, and then backed that up with a 78.

Johnson was second on the team in pars as he posted 32 even scores.

Justin Lamp rounded out the Concordia crew at the MIAC tournament. He posted a 3-round total of 237 in his third conference outing. He started the meet with a 77, then carded an 85 before bettering that mark by 10 shots with a 75 on Monday.
