Spring Schedule Starts With Shutout
ELBOW LAKE, Minn. (4/10/15)—Concordia kicked off the spring portion of its schedule by blanking Minn.-Morris 8-0 in a match-play dual meet at Tipsinah Mound GC in Elbow Lake.
The Cobbers won all eight singles matches and were led by sophomore Alex Koopmeiners who shot a team-best 70 and won his match 6&5. Koopmeiners closed out his match by winning the 13th hole which put him up by six with only five holes to play.
Concordia was on top of their game in the first round of spring. The Cobbers had seven of their eight golfers fire in the 70's and only one match went past the 15th hole.
The tightest match of the afternoon was played between Concordia's Landon Poss and Sam Gill of Morris. Poss shot a 71 and earned the victory by winning the 17th hole to pick up the 3&1 win.
Cobber sophomore Cade Montplaisir also shot a 71 and won 5&4 in the No.1 match. Freshman Mark Huneke matched Montplaisir with an identical 71 and 5&4 victory in the No.3 match. Trevor Swangler and Josh Peterson also won 5&4. Both players carded a 76.
Zach Whitchurch and Michael Waataja came up with the final wins for Concordia. Whitchurch won the No.6 match by shooting a 78 and winning 5&3 while Waataja won 4&3 at No.8.
Concordia will return to multi-team stroke play when they host the Cobber Spring Invite on Wednesday, Apr. 15 at Village Green GC in Moorhead.
