Papachek Named MIAC Golfer Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/10/14)—Concordia senior golfer Coy Papachek (Fargo, N.D) was named the MIAC Men's Golfer of the Week after winning the Augsburg Invitational last weekend.

Papachek becomes the first Concordia fall sports athlete to earn MIAC Athlete of the Week honors. He is also the first Cobber men's golfer to earn the award since the 2011-12 season when Pat Dietz won the honor on Apr. 17. It is the second time in his career that Papachek has garnered Golfer of the Week honors. He also won the award in his freshman season after winning the prestigious Twin Cities Classic on Oct. 10.

Papachek fired a jaw-breaking 4-under-par to earn medalist honors by a single shot at the Augsburg Invitational. He also helped the Cobbers post a top-3 finish.

Papachek was the picture of consistent excellence at the two-day, 36-hole tournament, as he shot a 2-under par 70 in each round to card his 4-under 140 for the tournament. His one-shot victory in the 102-player field was the third win of his college career. In the process, he led Concordia to a team score of 599 and a tie for third place in the 18-team field. Through two events and four rounds, Papachek has the MIAC's second-best scoring average at 71.5 shots per round and he's just three overall strokes behind the conference leader. The Concordia senior was an All-MIAC selection last season, and has finished in the Top 25 at the MIAC Championships in each of his first three seasons.

Papachek will be looking to stay at the top of his game when he participates in the St. John's Fall Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 14.
