Atta Coy!

HAM LAKE, Minn. (9/07/14)—Concordia senior Coy Papachek used the momentum he gained over the summer to post back-to-back 2-under par 70's and win the Augsburg Invite by a single shot. The individual title is the third of his collegiate career and first since he won twice in his freshman season back in 2011-12.

Papachek's pair of 70's helped the Cobbers finish in a tie for third place in the overall team standings. Concordia finished with a two-day total of 599 (296-303) which was only five shots out of second place. The 599 final team score is 20 shots better than last year's score at the same event.

Papachek had a confidence building summer and capped it off by advancing all the way to the quarterfinals of the prestigious Pine-to-Palm tournament. He earned a spot in the Elite 8 of that tournament by downing NCAA Division I golfer Max Rosenthal from Ohio State. Papachek stumbled in the opening meet of the fall season at the Concordia Invite but then rebounded to capture the crown at the Augsburg Invite.

Papachek's 2-under total of 140 is 19 shots better than he carded at last year's Augsburg Invite when he finished in a tie for 30th place. His winning total of 140 this year was four shots clear of the winning total from 2013.

Papachek was the only Concordia golfer to finish in the top 20 of the tournament. Cade Montplaisir was second on the team with a total of 152 (74-78) while Alex Koopmeiners was one shot back at 153 (75-78) and Sam Christian came home in 158 (81-77).

Papachek will be looking to carry on his early-season success when he, and the rest of the Cobbers, travel to central Minnesota to participate in the St. John's fall Invitational on Sept. 13-14.
