Lesser Known Talent Gets Day In The Sun

MORRIS, Minn. (9/19/13)—Concordia showcased some of its lesser-known talent at the UM-Morris Cougar Invite at Pomme De Terre GC on Thursday. The Cobbers finished fifth at the one-day meet and were led by freshman David Vaughan who shot 77 and finished in a tie for third.

Vaughan's 77 was a season best and his third-place finish marked his very first top 10 finish. He was only three shots behind Jake Richels of Valley City State who earned medalist honors by carding a 74.

Concordia's lesser-known talent recorded a pair of top 20 finishes. The senior tandem of Dylan Ferrell and Barrett Freeland both fired scores under 83 and ended up inside the top 20. Ferrell had an 81 and was in a tie for 13th place while Freeland tied for 17th with a final score of 82. Freeland was used as an alternate at the meet.

Freshman Mike Waataja and junior Micah Megorden rounded out the top 4 for the Cobbers. Waataja came home in 84 and snuck inside the top 25 in 24th place. Megorden shot an 88 and was tied for 33rd place.

The Cobbers will now head to Wisconsin to compete in the UW-Eau Claire Fall Invite on Sunday, Sept. 22 and Monday, Sept. 23. Both rounds will be held at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club.
