Whitchurch Caps Career With Academic Honor

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/15/13)—Concordia senior Andrew Whitchurch (Litchfield, Minn.) earned Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors for the second consecutive year it was announced on Wednesday. Whitchurch graduated from Concordia earlier in the month with a 3.52 grade point average while majoring Elementary Education.

Whitchurch was one of just 30 men's Division III golfers to earn the highest student/athlete award bestowed by the Golf Coaches Association of America. He was one of six athletes from the MIAC to receive the honor.

Whitchurch led the Cobbers in scoring average during the 2012 season. He averaged 77.4 shots per 18 holes during the 12 rounds he played. Whitchurch posted three top 20 finishes during the year and was the runner-up at the Concordia Invite on Sept. 1 when he fired a two-round total of 145 (69-76). His first round total of 69 was the only time all season that a CC golfer shot in the 60's.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2.

Whitchurch won the 2010 MIAC men's golf individual championship and was a two-time All-MIAC award winner. He finished in a tie for sixth in his freshman season in 2009 and then won the conference tournament with a 1-under total of 215 (75-71-69) in his sophomore season.
