Bio

Grant Hemmingsen is in his fourth year as assistant coach for the Cobber men's basketball program.

Hemmingsen was previously at NCAA Division II school Kentucky Wesleyan College from 2010-13. In his first season at KWC, the Panthers were ranked #1 in the country in Div. II and  advanced to the regional championship of the NCAA National Tournament. As a member of the Panther staff he was involved in all aspects of the program including recruiting, coaching at practice and preparing the team for games.  

Before serving at KWC, he was an assistant coach at Minneapolis Southwest High School for two years. Hemmingsen also coached at the Tubby Smith Basketball Camps for multiple summers.

Prior to Southwest, he was the trainer/coach at the 43 Hoops Basketball Academy in Hopkins, Minn., for three years where his responsibilities included training youth from fifth grade to their first year of college to advance their skills.
 
He also served as an AAU coach for 16 and 17 under 43 Hoops Basketball Club Boys national traveling teams.

Hemmingsen has ties to the MIAC – having been a two year starter and three contributor at Augsburg College from 2004-07. Hemmingsen graduated from Augsburg with a degree in Business Management. Hemmingsen played his freshman year at Minneapolis Community College as he helped the Marauders  to a No. 1 ranking throughout the regular season and a trip to the regional finals with a 25-3 record.

He was a three-year letter winner and two-year starter at Mounds View High School. He was named team captain in leading the Mustangs to the conference and sectional titles and a trip to the state tournament as a senior in 2002.
