Big Man Monday In Memorial

MOORHEAD, Minn. (01/15/24)---It was a Big Man Monday in Memorial Auditorium as Concordia used the strength of their inside game to post a 73-64 win over Augsburg.

The Cobbers outscored the Auggies 38-18 in points in the paint and held a 24-21 edge in rebounding to come away with their second straight win and third in the past four games.

The victory also pushes Concordia's overall win total to 10 games. It's the second consecutive season for CC to post a double-digit win total. The Cobbers are now 6-4 in MIAC play, which pushes them into a tie for fourth place in the conference standings.

The game was tight from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Neither team had more than a 9-point lead for the entire 40 minutes of play.

The key stretch came just after the midway point of the second half. Augsburg (5-8, 3-7 MIAC) tied the game for the sixth time when they drained a 3-pointer with 8:26 to play. The teams traded baskets before critical field goals from Jacob Cook and Jackson Loge staked CC to a 7-point lead at 66-59 with 3:50 to play.

The Auggies were never able to get within six points down the stretch as the Cobber defense sealed the win.

Cook finished the game with a season-high 22 points and also added six rebounds. He was 11-for-16 from the field.

Loge and Noah Christensen combined for 23 points as the Cobber Big Men totaled 45 of the team's 73 points. Loge had 13 points and six boards and Christensen went for 10 points and a similar six boards.

Matt Johnson led the Concordia backcourt. He poured in 20 points and was 5-for-6 from outside the arc.    

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will have a rare Wednesday off, before returning to play on Saturday, Jan. 20 when they host Bethel at 3 p.m.
