Sizzling Start Sinks Cobbers
MOORHEAD, MInn. (2/15/12)— Concordia fell
behind 20-3 in the first 7:30 of their game against Gustavus and
could never recover as the Cobbers fell 61-43 in Moorhead on
Wednesday.
Concordia watched as the Gusties knocked down their first 11 shots
of the game and connect on 92.3% of their shots in the first 10
minutes of the game. The Cobbers never had a chance to stay in the
game in the first half and trailed 39-17 at the break. Concordia
outscored Gustavus 26-22 in the second half but could never get
within 14 points as the 17-point first-half was too much to
overcome.
The loss is the seventh straight for Concordia who falls to 7-17
overall and 5-14 in the MIAC. The Gusties continue their quest for
the MIAC regular-season championship. With one game remaining in
the regular season, Gustavus leads the conference by a game with a
16-3 record. GAC is now 19-5 overall.
The Cobbers wound up shoot 32.7% (16-for-49) from the floor and
only 14.3 (2-for-14) from outside the arc. After starting the game
lights out, Gustavus trailed off at the end of the first half and
then in the second period and finished the game by hitting on 43.6%
(24-for-55) of their shots from the field and 35.0% (7-for-20) of
their 3-point shots. The Gusties enjoyed a 38-28 edge in
rebounding.
Dewon McKenzie had a team-high nine points for
CC. Ebo Nana-Kweson had a team-high six rebounds,
three steals and added seven points.
Gustavus only had two players with more than six points.
Seth Anderson and Blake Shay
combined for 32 of the team’s 61 points. Anderson had a
game-high 18 points and Shay went 4-for-8 from outside the arc and
added 14. Paul Blacklock had a game-high seven
rebounds.
Concordia will finish off the 2012 season when they play at St.
John’s on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m.
