Cobber Week In Review - By The Numbers
MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/18/12)—The Cobber
Sports Information office puts an official wrap on the fall sports
season with this edition of the Week in Review. With the
women’s soccer loss in the Sweet 16 at Washington U., all
eight fall sports have competed their seasons and that means it is
time for the six winter sports seasons to take center stage. We
hope the momentum started by the fall sports teams carry over to
the winter!
1: The women’s hockey team scored just one
goal in their two-game series against Bethel this past weekend but
thanks to their stellar defensive play, was able to come away with
one league points. The Cobbers put up 53 shots against Royal goalie
Jess Newstrom with only one getting behind the all-conference
netminder. Maddy Gendreau, last week’s MIAC
Player of the Week, was the only CC player to light the lamp on the
weekend.
2: Concordia senior All-American wrestler
Tom Bouressa defeated two NCAA Division I athletes
on his way to capturing the championship in the 285-lb weight class
at the Finn Grinaker Cobber Open on Saturday. Bouressa beat Cody
Krumweide of Northern Iowa in the championship match. Krumweide was
a three-time Iowa high school state champion.
5: The Cobber men’s hockey team scored five
goals in their 5-1 win at Bethel on Saturday. The victory helped CC
earn a split in the series and improves their conference record to
2-2-0 on the year. Concordia has now scored five or more goals in
two games this season which is one more than they had in all of
last season.
10: The swimming and diving team posted 10 season
best marks at the JoAnn Andregg Invite held at St. Thomas on
Friday. CC also came away with five career bests at the meet. The
other big highlight came from the 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Alexis Philbrick, Kelsey Appert,
Greta Titus and Amanda Suchanek
who swam a 1:48.70 which is the fastest time by any CC quartet this
season.
15: Junior women’s basketball center
Alexandra Lippert scored 15 points and collected
15 rebounds in the team’s 75-52 win over St. Scholastica on
Saturday. It was Lippert’s first double-double of the season
and eighth of her career.
17: The Concordia women’s soccer team
finished the 2012 season with 17 wins which is the second most in
school history. The Cobbers finished their unbelievable year with a
17-4-2 overall record.
24: Senior men’s basketball player
Aaron Lindahl had a game-high 24 points in the
team’s season-opening win at UM-Morris. Lindahl went 10-12
from the field in his first game back after sitting out almost the
entire 2011-12 season with a knee injury.
35: The Cobber wrestling team posted 35 total
victories in the Finn Grinaker Cobber Open on Saturday. Concordia
had two individual weight champions, seven top 3 finishers and 10
top 5 finishers.
138: Cobber senior All-American women’s
soccer player Sarah Rounds finished her career
with 138 career points which breaks the all-time point record for
Concordia. Rounds scored the team’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss
at Washington Univ. in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
The score pushed Rounds ahead of Angie Tohm who
set the previous record from 1993-96.
