Another Record-Setting Fall In The Classroom

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/25/23)----It was another record-setting fall in the classroom for the Concordia fall sports student-athletes. For the third time in the last four year, the Cobbers posted another record number of student-athletes who received MIAC Academic All-Conference honors.

Concordia had 52 student-athletes receive the conference academic award. That is five more than last fall’s record-breaking total of 46.

In order to qualify for Academic All-MIAC status, student-athletes must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors by academic standards with a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Students must also have completed one full-time academic year at their current institution prior to becoming eligible for the honor.

To meet the athletic qualifications, an individual must be a member of a MIAC-sponsored varsity sports team, be academically and athletically eligible, have utilized a season of participation per NCAA and MIAC definitions, and have remained on the sports roster through the conclusion of the sports season in order to be eligible for Academic All-Conference honors.

The Cobber football had the highest number of student-athletes recognized by the conference. The league honors student-athletes in six different fall sports teams with men’s and women’s golf awards being handed out in the spring. The football squad had 12 players earn the award. The women's soccer program was second with 11 student-athletes on the Academic All-Conference Team and volleyball had nine honorees.

The total number of Academic All-MIAC honorees for fall sports has increased every year since 2011. Football led all fall sports this year with a record 186 honorees - up 12 from a season ago. Women’s soccer finished one shy of its sport record with 158 honorees in 2022. Women’s cross country had 119 honorees - the same number as the previous Fall and five shy of its sport record of 124 - while men’s soccer and volleyball each had 115 honorees in 2022, just short of their respective all-time highs set a season ago at 119 and 118, respectively. Men’s cross country had 88 honorees this fall, third-most in the sport’s history and two shy of its record of 90.
