Senior Salute - Kara Andersen

The Cobber "Senior Salute" series is a way to honor all the Concordia spring sports athletes who had their senior season come to an abrupt halt. We want to highlight one senior each day to thank them for all their hard work, dedication and Cobber spirit they have show over their careers in maroon and gold.

Cobber Senior Salute - Kara Andersen - Women's Track & Field

What is one of the top things you will miss about being a Cobber athlete?
It’s hard to pinpoint just one thing I will miss because athletics were so intertwined in my experience at Concordia but I automatically think of my teammates. I will miss getting to spend time with my teammates, whether during a run, a hard workout or at DS. But most of all, I will miss being surrounded by passion, dedication, and love for running that my teammates show me every day. We push each other when we need to, comfort failures and celebrate successes together. This supportive community will be the hardest to say goodbye to.

What is something you are going to miss about Concordia College – away from athletics?
Away from athletics, I will miss the challenging classes and supportive faculty that have taught me so much about many different fields of study. I am very excited to start using this classroom knowledge in ‘the real world’ and Concordia has done a wonderful job setting students up for success.

What is one of your favorite highlights/memories from your time playing athletics/being with your team?
For me, earning the highest Women’s GPA at Concordia for Cross Country in 2018 and earning the highest GPA of all MIAC Women’s Cross Country teams in 2019 was really special. Our program puts a huge emphasis on success in and out of the classroom, so seeing that dedication every day from my teammates is something that I am so proud to be apart. And of course, a huge shout out to the Men’s Track and Field team for getting 2nd at the 2020 indoor MIAC meet. It was so exciting to be able to cheer them on and watch them succeed after months and years of hard work. I can’t wait to see what both the men’s and women’s teams will achieve in the future.

What is one of your favorite memories from Concordia away from athletics?
The May Seminar Peak + Camp 2018 was one of the highlights of my college career. During this trip, we camped in 8 different national parks. We drove two 12-passenger vans through North Dakota, down the Rocky Mountains to New Mexico and Colorado then back to Minnesota in 19 days with only 3 showers! We learned about Environmental Philosophy and Photography throughout the trip and was able to meet and learn from many great environmentalists along the way.

What are your post-graduation plans?
I do not have anything currently set up but I am most likely heading back to Minneapolis to search for a job.
