Bio

Melvin Whitney joined the Cobber staff in the spring of 2023. He is main role is as a defensive backs coach for the program.

Whitney adds head coaching experience and an impressive background to the staff. He was the head coach at Fargo Oak Grove and is currently the Director of Advancement and Development at M State Community and Technical College. Before his stint at Oak Grove, Whitney was an assistant coach at Fargo Shanley. 

Whitney, who is originally from Chicago, Ill., played collegiately for North Dakota State after starting his career at Northland Community and Technical College. Whitney graduated from NDSU in 2013. 

Melvin is a former President of the Fargo West Rotary, and has also been a member of the Chamber Ambassadors.

Whitney has two children - Michael and Grace - and lives in Dilworth, Minn.
