Julkes Earns National Weekly Honor

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/05/19)---Willie Julkes III was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week after blocking a pair of extra points and helping Concordia beat No.4-ranked St. John's on Saturday.

Julkes becomes the first Concordia player to earn the national weekly award this season and first since the first week of the 2017 season. Julkes was named at the D3football.com Special Teams Player of the Week.

The award comes on the heels of Julkes being one of three Cobber players to earn MIAC Player of the Week honors. Julkes was named the MIAC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Julkes' two blocked extra points were key moments in the Cobbers' victory at St. John's. His first block came on the very first touchdown of the game. The Johnnies took a 6-0 lead late in the first quarter but Julkes was able to jump up and block the point after and stop SJU from tacking on one more point – which would be critical at the end of the game.

Julkes' second blocked kick was the deciding point factor in the game. After the Johnnies scored on their possession in the first overtime, Julkes once again used his 2-sport athletic ability to knock down the potential point-scoring kick. The Cobbers would then score on their possession and win the game with a successful PAT try.

Julkes has been a huge asset for Concordia's special teams this season and currently leads the nation in kick blocks. Julkes has blocked five punts or kick attempts this year which is a school record.
