MOORHEAD, Minn. (8/03/18)--- Another year, another record number of golfers for the annual Cobber Football Alumni Golf Outing.
Last year almost 150 alumni and friends showed up to support the Concordia football program and on Friday that number was upped to over 160 golfers. Once again it was the largest group in the history of the tournament.
"The support of our alumni group is unbelievable," head coach Terry Horan said. "Every year I don't think will have more players show up but each year they continue to grow with their enthusiasm and backing of the event."
All the money raised by the golf outing goes into the football budget to help pay for travel and defray the cost of extra items throughout the course of the season.
The golf outing begins the final countdown to the preseason training camp for the Cobbers. Concordia players will report to campus on Saturday, Aug. 11 with practice starting on Sunday, Aug. 12. The team will spend almost three weeks getting ready for the season opener on Saturday, Sept. 1. The Cobbers will host Neb. Wesleyan for the first game of the year. The home opener will be feature the unveiling of the brand new $1 million video scoreboard. Last year the Cobbers beat the Prairie Wolves 34-14 in last year's season opener in Lincoln, Neb. Concordia will then travel to Whitewater, Wis. to take on No.12-ranked Wis.-Whitewater on Saturday, Sept. 8.
