Cobbers Stay Locked In Top 25

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/14/13)—Even though Concordia suffered its first defeat of the season, the Cobbers remained locked in the top 25 in the nation in both major Division III polls.

Concordia dropped spots in both the American Football Coaches Association and D3football.com rankings but did not slide out of the top 25. The Cobbers dropped from the No.18 spot to No.25 in the AFCA rankings and are at No.24 in the D3football.com poll – dropping two spots from No.22.

CC is one of four MIAC teams to be ranked in the top 25 this week. Bethel, who beat Concordia on Saturday, remained in the No.5 spot in the D3football.com rankings and stayed locked into eighth in the AFCA poll. St. Thomas slid from No.6 to No.9 in the D3football.com poll and held steady at No.12 in the coaches' rankings. St. John's creeps back into the national rankings again. The Johnnies are now 25th in the D3football.com poll and 23rd in the AFCA rankings.

The Cobbers are now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play this season.  Concordia is in a three-way tie for second place in the MIAC standings with teams with one loss. St. John's has a game in hand on CC and is 3-1 in league play. UST is also 2-1 against MIAC foes.

Concordia heads out on the road to face a surging Hamline team on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. in St. Paul. The Pipers are coming off a 31-28 win over St. Olaf. It was Hamline's first conference victory since 2009. CC has won the last 21 meetings between the two teams and owns a 55-13-0 record against the Pipers.
