Baune Named To D3football.com Team Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/12/12)—Concordia senior fullback Brett Baune was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week it was announced on Wednesday. Baune broke the school record for most rushing yards in a single game and helped the Cobbers beat Buena Vista 38-14.

The award comes two days after Baune was named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week as well as being placed on the Beyond Sports Network (BSN) National Team of the Week. The national honors are a first for Baune.

Baune's career day finished with 258 rushing yards on 25 carries. His one-game total broke the old program record of 243 yards set by Reid Christopherson back in 1981. Baune averaged 10.3 yards per carry on the day. His biggest carry of the day came on a fourth-and-one situation early in the fourth quarter. Baune took the handoff and rambled 50 yards for his only score of the afternoon.

Baune's rushing prowess helped the Cobbers amass 547 yards on the ground. It is the second highest single-game rushing total in school history. Concordia also had 634 total offensive yards – also the second highest yardage total in school history.

Baune has now rushed for 329 yards on 41 carries in the first two games of the season. Both totals lead the MIAC by wide margins. His 164.5 rushing yards per game average is eighth in all of Division III.

As a team, Concordia is ranked second in the nation in rushing offense – averaging 379.0 yards per game. They are also 18th in total offense with a 494.5 average.

The Cobbers will now head into MIAC play when they play at St. Olaf in the conference opener for both teams on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. The game is the annual Troll Bowl with the winner receiving the ugliest rivalry trophy in the nation.
