Wisner Named MIAC Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (09/06/11)-- Cobber senior defensive end Robin Wisner (Seattle, Wash./Franklin HS) was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. It is the first weekly award for Wisner and he becomes the first CC athlete to win the MIAC weekly honor this season.

Wisner was the defensive catalyst in Concordia's 37-13 win over Dickinson State on Saturday. Wisner had statistical dream game against the Blue Hawks who were ranked No.7 in the NAIS preseason national poll. He blocked a field goal, blocked a punt, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, mad 4.0 tackles and had 0.5 sacks. It is believed to be the first time in the history of Cobber football that a player has blocked a punt and a field goal in the same game.

On the first drive of the game Wisner blocked a field goal that would have given DSU a 3-0 lead. Trailing 13-7 he then blocked a punt in the Blue Hawks end of the field which led to CC scoring a TD that tied the game at 13-13.

On the very first possession of the second half he recovered a fumble on the DSU 13-yard line which the Cobbers turned into a 23-13 lead after needing only three plays to crack the DSU end zone.
He capped his day on the very next possession as he stripped the Dickinson State running back of the ball after the Blue Hawks had driven into CC territory and were threatening to get to within three points. CC recovered the fumble, drove down and scored the TD which put the game out of reach at 30-13.

Wisner and the Cobbers will take their first road trip of the season to face their final non-conference test Saturday. Concordia heads to Storm Lake, Iowa, for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Buena Vista.
