Left Side Earns All-MIAC Honors
MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/14/17)---The left side of the Concordia teamed up one more time as senior third baseman Cody Rahman and sophomore shortstop Nate Hoeft were named to the MIAC All-Conference Team.
In addition to being named to the MIAC All-Conference Team, Rahman was also placed on the MIAC All-Defensive Team. Senior Joe Hallock was the team's selection to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
Rahman and Hoeft both earn conference postseason honors for the first time in their careers.
Rahman started all 20 MIAC games as the team's third baseman. He finished the league season by hitting a career-best .310 and had at least one hit in 16 of the 20 conference contests. Rahman had at least two hits in six games against league foes.
Rahman had 71 at-bats in the MIAC campaign and recorded a team-high 22 hits with six doubles and one home run. He had eight RBI and finished with a .437 slugging percentage and a .395 on-base percentage.
In the field Rahman had a .956 fielding percentage and handled 68 total chances. He only committed three errors and came away with a team-best 47 assists.
Not only did Rahman help Concordia in the batter's box and on defense he also regained his early collegiate career pitching performance. Rahman appeared in nine league games and led the team in ERA with a 1.23 mark. He pitched in 14.2 innings and only allowed two earned runs while striking out a team-best 18.
Rahman reached the 100-hit plateau during the 2017 season and finished his career in maroon and gold with 137 hits which is tied for eighth on the school's all-time hit list. He also came away with 35 doubles which is the third highest total in program history.
Hoeft stepped into the Cobbers' starting shortstop role and produced several "web gem" caliber defensive plays. As the season wore on Hoeft complimented his defensive prowess with a confiedent hitting attack. He quietly led Concordia in hitting in conference play with a .349 average.
Hoeft hit safely in 15 MIAC games and had at least two hits in five games. He had a career-best four hits in the second game against conference champion St. Thomas when he went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs.
Hoeft also led the team in hits (22) and was second in RBI (13). He had a .397 on-base percentage and only struck out four times in 63 plate appearances.
