A Sensational Group Of Six All-MIAC Award Winners

A Sensational Group Of Six All-MIAC Award Winners

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/13/15)—Concordia finished their sensational conference season by having six players earn MIAC postseason honors. It ties the school record for most players to earn MIAC postseason awards. The last time the Cobbers had six players earn MIAC postseason honors was back in 2005.

Nick Bornhauser, Eric Carlsen, Bryce Feia, Aaron Green, Devin Johnson were all placed on the MIAC All-Conference Team while shortstop Phil Kuball earned MIAC All-Defensive Team honors.

Johnson is the only repeat winner on the MIAC postseason award list. He also earned All-Conference honors in 2013.

The six players helped Concordia post its second, second-place finish in the MIAC standings in the past three seasons. The Cobbers went 12-6 in league play and were 8-2 in their final 10 conference games. Overall Concordia finished the year at 26-11. The 26 wins is the most in a single season since the 1995 campaign.

Bornhauser stepped into the spotlight early in the season and continued to put up record-breaking offensive numbers the entire year. He broke the Concordia single-season record for doubles and RBI. He was named the MIAC Player of the Week on two occasions and was the NCBWA National Player of the Week on Mar. 12.

Bornhauser hit .413 in the team's 18 league games. Bornhauser was either first or second in the MIAC in six different offensive statistical categories and was in the top 10 in 10 different statistical categories.  He led the team in hits, runs, doubles home runs, RBI, walks and slugging percentage in conference contests.

Bornhauser led MIAC in runs scored (24) and was second in doubles (9), home runs (6), RBI (24), total bases (55) and slugging percentage (.873).

Carlsen wound up finishing second in the MIAC in batting average with a .444 mark in the 13 MIAC games he played in this year. He hit safely in all but one conference game this season. He had five multiple-hit games and his top performance came in game 2 at Gustavus where he went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI.

Feia was the team's dominant closer for the year. He broke the school's single-season record for saves. He finished the year with 10 saves and a 2.62 ERA. Feia pitched in 11 conference games, compiled a miniscule 0.68 ERA and had seven saves. He led the MIAC in saves and was second in ERA among all conference closers.

Green supplied the power for the Cobber Crush Crew. He tied for second in home runs in overall and league games. Green clouted 10 home runs in his 36 total games and had six long balls in the 18 league games.

Green was fourth in the MIAC in total bases at 46 and fifth in slugging percentage with a .657 mark.

Green also wound up breaking head coach Chris Coste's single season record for total bases. Coste put up 99 total bases in 1994 and Green nudged that mark by one as he completed the year with 100 total bases.

Johnson was at his best against the best pitchers in the MIAC.  He finished by hitting .388 in MIAC play and .412 overall. Both marks are career bests. He had an impressive nine multiple-hit games in the 18 conference contests. Johnson was fifth in the MIAC in runs (20), seventh in batting average (.388) and on-base percentage (.474) and eighth in hits (26) in league games.

Kuball, the only junior among the six postseason award winners, used his range and athletic ability to become one of the top defensive infielders in the MIAC. He would routinely track down ball hit to his right, and also up the middle, from his shortstop position.

Kuball led the MIAC in assists both overall games and league contests in 2015. He came up with 118 assists in all games and 64 in the 18 conference games. Kuball  .946 fielding percentage in 18 league play as he fielded 92 chances and made only five errors. He also had a hand in nine double plays against MIAC opponents.
