4 Cobbers Earn Spots At DIII Elite Meet

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/9/21)---Concordia will send four student/athletes to the DIII Elite Indoor Championship Meet at Warburg College this weekend.

Josie Herrmann, Meritt Miller, Cayle Hovland and Jacey Schlosser will all represent the Cobbers at the national meet in Waverly, Iowa. The DIII Elite Championship Meet features 38 different schools – most of which are from the Midwest.   

Herrmann is the top-ranked Concordia athlete headed to the meet. She will compete in the mile and 800 meters. She will race in the mile on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Her top event will take place on Saturday at 12:35 p.m. when she competes in the 800 meters. Herrmann owns the No.2-ranked time in the event at them meet. She put up a season-best mark of 2:13.68 on Feb. 20 at the UND Tune-Up Meet. Her time is just off the top mark of 2:13.35 which was posted by Alexandra Maddux of Hamline.

Miller will also race in the mile on Friday. She has had the best season of her indoor career in 2021. Last weekend she clocked a 5:18.44 at the CSB Invite which is the seventh fastest time in school history.

Hovland and Schlosser will represent the Cobber field athletes at the meet. Hovland will participate in both the throw competitions while Schlosser is scheduled to compete in the shot put on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Schlosser is scheduled for the first flight in the event after recording her top mark of 39-04.00 at the Bison Open on Feb. 4.

Hovland is in the second flight in both the weight throw and the shot put. She will start the DIII Elite Meet on Friday at 3 p.m. when she steps into the circle in the weight throw. Hovland's top distance of the season is 52-01.00 which she posted on Feb. 13 at the Cobber Indoor Duals and is No.2 on the school's all-time list.

Hovland will join Schlosser in the shot put on Saturday. She has the third best mark of the year among athletes in the meet. She recorded a distance of 43-09.75 at the Cobber Indoor Duals which is the fifth best in Cobber history.    

No spectators will be allowed in the arena but fans can follow the action with live video and results.
